The main reason why it surprises me is because in the beginning of the story, the whole town shuns Orwell, they loathe what he does and most of all he hates his business organization and raft start liking him and cheering him because a tamed elephant is absolve and Orwell is passage to go shoot it with a rifle. The irony that I see in this natural selection is that Orwel l is going to kill the elephant. The reason why I say this is because in lines 166-1668, Orwell says: I had got to shoot the elephant. I had committed myself to doing it when I direct for the rifle. A sahib has got to act like a sahib; he has got to step up resolute, to recognise his own mind and do definite things. And when he called for the rifle, which meant that he was going to shoot the elephant after all.
